What matters?

Most things don’t.

Among those that do are:

  1. Being present for people you love. Not just for them, but also for your own sake.
  2. Having the ability to do the things you love and get paid to do it.
  3. Not rushing through life. Being comfortable in being unfinished. Being patient. Slowing down.
  4. Noticing. The older you get, the harder it becomes to simply notice life. As a result, it slips by.
  5. Trusting yourself, your wants, needs, and desires. You never waste time when you do what you want. You’ll also want different things at different stages of life. So if you don’t want something you think you should have now, let it go. You’ll either want it later. Or not. (And that’s OK too.)
  6. Blocking out other people’s judgements, opinions, and voices. The majority can be — and frequently is — wrong.
  7. Letting your parents know you love them.
  8. Moving towards your goals, always, no matter how small. Never giving up on yourself.
  9. Being in nature more. Walking more. Smelling the air more. Looking up more. Smiling more.
  10. Choosing to have and to be enough without adding anything to your current life.

At least that’s what matters to me now.
